Glasgow, 12th June 2019 – Enterprise-native UK digital transformation consultancy and IT services business ECS today announced that ECS Security, its cyber-security arm, has completed a management buyout (MBO), supported by private equity firm Livingbridge.
The divestment allows ECS to focus all its efforts, and speed up investment, on its successful strategy of assisting FTSE 100 and 250 clients with all aspects of their digital transformation strategies.
In just 10 years, ECS has become a £100m turnover business and a trusted long-term partner for customers, including many of the UK’s largest banks. The firm helps customers in highly regulated industries with their enterprise transformation, cloud, Amazon Connect, DevOps and security strategies.
During this time there has been a clear divergence between the goals, business models and focus of the ECS Security team and those of the other core practice areas: cloud enablement, customer experience transformation (Amazon Connect), DevOps, cloud cost optimisation, and data management & analytics.
ECS fills the sweet spot in the UK between the industry behemoths and the niche cloud-native players that lack enterprise experience. The firm plans to boost investment in its range of market-leading services to broaden and deepen its transformation offerings, skills set and expertise and remain the partner of choice for large businesses weighed down by complex IT infrastructure.
Paul Thomson, Group Chief Executive, ECS Group, said, “The time is right for ECS Security to separate from the ECS group as an independent entity and we wish the team a successful future. The decision makes sense for both businesses – and importantly for our growing roster of partners and customers. We will have a laser-like focus on delivering the gold-standard cloud and digital transformation services that our customers have come to expect – enabling them to adapt and thrive in a cloud-based world.”
A particular focus for ECS is deploying Amazon Connect, the cloud-based contact centre technology that is transforming the customer service industry. ECS is leading the charge in the UK as one of Amazon Connect’s Service Delivery Launch Partners. The firm is also one of only a handful of businesses worldwide to have experience in deploying the platform in large enterprises operating in highly regulated industries such as financial services.
Another key market is enterprise cloud enablement, where ECS is helping many household-name financial services firms move safely and securely to public cloud to boost agility and win out against newer cloud-native competitors.
DevOps services, always in high demand, are another key focus area. Its ground-breaking Enablement Pods help enterprises transform at scale by embedding ECS experts in engineering teams for short periods to introduce more agile ways of working, as well as new tooling and technologies.
